And welcome back.
So,I saw this beautiful Aldo gold ring + velvet choker and immediately fell in love. I just wanted to own it but was it worth the stress of having to ship to me? Not necessarily, so I said to myself;
“safe thyself the stress and save thy Wallet “.
Next thing I thought to just DIY something similar and because the attraction was more about the gold circle ring concept. I quickly got an idea from my jewelry box (earrings) and being a tailor that I am, I reached out for a denim piece of fabric.
So, here is my very first choker DIY I hope you’d love and create.
What you need:
- Fabric (I used denim 16 x 2 inches)
- Gold circle ring (detached from earring)
- Sewing machine
- measuring tape
- Pair of scissors
- Hand Needle
- Sewing thread
- Tailoring snap
First of, use a tape to measure the circumference of your neck then add 2-3 inches (the standard measurement for chokers ranges 12-14 inches, give or take). My neck size is 13inches but added 3inches equaling 16inches for back of neck overlap and loop at the ring circle hoop.
Next, cut your fabric in half. For mine, I got 8inches length and 2inches width because my initial measurement and addition equaled 16inches.
Bend with right side facing and stitch, then iron seam open
Stitch at one end, turn to right side and iron.
Place hoop on fabric, pull 1/2 inch inward to make a loop and secure both sides with a pin then stitch.
Now that we are done stitching, what’s left is to fix the snap at both ends using hand needle and thread.
At this stage I got a 14inches Choker length instead of 13inches measured for my neck size, but that’s not a problem because you need 1inch extra for overlap at the back of your neck. Fix the snap 1inch away at one end.
When done it would looks like this
And that’s it. Choker is done and ready!!!
Chokers are such a quickie and affordable thing to make. Depending on the type and how you want it, you can always shop lots of items from your wardrobe to make one for yourself or as gift to others.
