Hi Go-getters,

And welcome back.

I must say finance becomes a big deal living in a world of fashion and trends. If you are a budget girl like me, not every time something new. Sometimes make existing wardrobe pieces do the work while creatively doing a trend.

Today, I want us to make a fixable bell flare which can be styled with any existing closet piece of your choice without having to alter them. I believe in a functional wardrobe and personally, having to put up with the drama that comes with bell sleeve pieces makes them not all time wears. If you agree with me, I have good news; the fixable bell flare you would learn here can be unfixed at any point you get tired of them on your outfit. Another thing is that you would be able to style other looks with the same wardrobe pieces worn with your bell flare since there is no form of alteration. Fantastic idea? Definitely.

Ok, let's get started.

  • Fabric (36 x 36 inches)
  • Sewing machine or needle
  • Measuring tape
  • chalk
  • Pair of scissors
  • Office pins and safety pin
  • Matching thread
  • Elastic band
  • Bias

NOTE: If you are unsure of getting it right on your fabric, you can use a paper to draft then trace shape on your fabric.

To begin, fold your fabric into two to get a rectangular shape. You don’t want chalk tracing on right side, so your folded fabric should have right sides facing each other.

Fold the rectangular shape fabric in two to get a square shape. This would give you four pieces on the fold.

Fold your square shape fabric to get an isosceles triangle.

On one equal and unequal side, measure 3inches down towards the waist at both sides and mark, connect marked points to give a circle line as seen;

Depending on how long you want your bell, measure from point marked 3inches towards the waist at both sides and the middle and mark then connect the points to give a circle line. For mine I wanted 11inches length as the picture shows;

Using your scissors, cut out through marked ends.

Now, open cut out bell in half a circle. What you would see when you open would be full circle folded with a hole in the middle, divide with your scissors to get two half circles.

Fold each half circle to get quarter circle.

Due to the circle cut out, it would be impossible to fold and stitch to make a pipe. This is  at 3inches cut out point where you would fix elastic band for bell fit. You need an extra straight cut out piece.

Attach to bell with office pins looking like this;

Stitch through ends with sewing machine or needle removing office pins as you progress.

Iron seam open then bend attached piece and stitch through to make a pipe.

Using safety pins, fix your elastic band through pipe created on your bell and draw elastic band to your hand size towards elbow where you want your bell to fit. Join two ends of elastic band and stitch together.

Now run stitches from top of bell down the hem and you have your bell already looking like this;
To finish use a bias, place at the hem on right side and stitch round on bias line. Bend bias inwards facing wrong side of bell, stitch round after bending the second bias line at rare and your bell is ready!!!
Now you are ready to fix bell flare on whatever outfit you want to style to get an all bell flare sleeve. I have styled mine already and can't wait to share with you.

Hope these steps are simple enough. Let me know in the comment box your thoughts on this project.

Enjoy the rest of your week go-getters. I’m back here with you next post.

Much love
